IAN A. JOHNSTON, PRINCIPAL
Ian Johnston stands as a beacon of dedication and achievement in the architectural realm. After receiving his education from both the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, he completed a rigorous 5-year professional program, proudly earning his Bachelor of Architecture in 1990. His commitment to excellence saw him join the AIA as an Associate Member from 1991 to 1995 and later as a Full Member from 1996 onwards. In Wilmington AIANC, Ian's leadership prowess became evident: he navigated roles as the IDP Coordinator from 1992–1995, CE Director in 2002, took on responsibilities as the President Elect in 2003, and ultimately led as the President in 2004. Beyond the confines of his professional accolades, Ian finds solace in his role as a loving husband and father. His free time paints a picture of a man deeply passionate about woodworking, sketching, and painting, each hobby a testament to his boundless creativity.

"Ian Johnston designed a replacement system for our failing EFIS... The goal is to ensure the structural integrity of the building, maintain the appearance of the original, and eliminate the stigma of EFIS in the real estate industry in our area. To accomplish these goals, Ian designed a natural stucco exterior compatible with our basic structure. This was a year-plus project covering three buildings, costing about $2,200,000. Since completing the project, Ian has many times inspected the project and provided help on several issues outside the scope of the original work, pleasantly helping on all occasions."
